Reunions

Lately I had the pleasure of meeting some friends I have not seen in decades. The last time I saw them, I was barely an adult. For those who go back further, I recall chatting with them last in my blue pinafore. The thing about these meetings is, I feel an instant fusion of my past, present and future.

It is very reassuring to know that there are aspects of me that have never changed and probably never will. Living through riotous times as an adult, with its many pressures, I lose my bearings. Old friends from childhood has a stabilizing effect on me. Seeing others who have stayed on the course of their childhood ambitions inspire me to continue on my own. I love all things enduring, consistent and similar.

The older I get, the more I am drawn to my past. To inform my future. No matter how far we have gone, I think we have a solid, enduring core within that anchors us. I hope the below prose also speaks to you…

"For, as I draw closer and closer to the end, I travel in a circle nearer and nearer to the beginning. It seems to be one of the kind of smoothing and preparings of the way. My heart is touched by many remembrances that had long fallen asleep."

Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities.
